About The Mt Arlington Fire Department

Up until 1923, bucket brigades by surrounding neighbors were the only means to extinguishing fires. The Mt Arlington Fire Department was the first established fire department in the Lake Hopatcong communities formed in 1923, by citizens like you, to protect life and property. Its first 42 members were responsible for not only the immediate area, but all surrounding municipalities on the shores of the lake.

In 1970, a second firehouse was constructed at Lake Rogerene. This second location was needed to reduce response time within the area as well as, house two additional trucks.

Since then, the department has grown to over approximately 50 members and responds to an average of 200+ calls a year. It continues to cover 2.1 sq mi, including The Lake Rogerene community and a section of Interstate 80.
